DAY BY DAY PLAN
Itinerary
This is a sample route. The final journey can be adjusted based on your flight dates, hotel preference, walking level, and travel style.
Day 1: Arrival in Paro and Transfer to Thimphu
Arrive at Paro International Airport, where your private guide will welcome you. Enjoy a scenic drive to Thimphu, Bhutan’s capital city, passing rivers, hillsides, prayer flags, and traditional homes along the way.
After check-in, take the evening at a relaxed pace. Depending on arrival time, you may enjoy a short walk through Thimphu town or rest after your flight.
Day 2: Thimphu Cultural Sightseeing
Spend the day exploring Thimphu’s cultural and spiritual landmarks. Visits may include Buddha Dordenma, the National Memorial Chorten, traditional craft centres, local markets, museums, and important heritage sites.
This day gives you a meaningful introduction to Bhutan’s history, religion, arts, and modern local life before continuing deeper into the journey.
Day 3: Thimphu to Punakha via Dochula Pass
Travel from Thimphu to Punakha, crossing Dochula Pass, known for its 108 memorial chortens and beautiful mountain views on clear days.
Continue into Punakha Valley, a warmer riverside region surrounded by terraced fields, traditional villages, and peaceful landscapes. Visit Chimi Lhakhang or nearby local sites depending on time and interest.
Day 4: Punakha Valley Exploration
Explore Punakha Dzong, one of Bhutan’s most beautiful and historically important fortresses. Set between two rivers, the dzong is known for its grand architecture, courtyards, and spiritual importance.
You may also visit nearby villages, walk across Punakha’s suspension bridge, or enjoy a gentle valley hike before returning to your hotel for a relaxed evening.
Day 5: Punakha to Paro
Drive back towards Paro with scenic stops along the way. On arrival, begin exploring Paro Valley with visits to cultural landmarks such as Kyichu Lhakhang, Paro Dzong, or the National Museum depending on the final schedule.
The evening can be kept relaxed so you are ready for the festival experience.
Day 6: Paro Tshechu Festival Experience
Attend the Paro Tshechu and experience one of Bhutan’s most colourful and meaningful festivals. Watch sacred mask dances, traditional performances, local gatherings, and religious rituals in a lively festival setting.
Your guide will explain the meaning behind the dances, symbols, costumes, and spiritual stories connected to the festival. This is a wonderful opportunity to see Bhutanese culture, faith, and community life come together.
Day 7: Tiger’s Nest Monastery and Departure or Extension
Begin the day with the hike to Tiger’s Nest Monastery, Bhutan’s most iconic spiritual landmark. The trail passes through pine forests and mountain paths before reaching the sacred monastery built dramatically on a cliffside above Paro Valley.
