Best Time to Visit Bhutan, Season by Season

July 16, 2026

Spring (March–May)

Rhododendrons bloom across the hillsides, and skies are generally clear for mountain views. This is peak season for trekking, since trails are dry and temperatures are mild at most altitudes.

Summer (June–August)

Bhutan’s monsoon season. Rain is frequent, especially in lower valleys, and some higher trekking routes become genuinely difficult. Fewer crowds, and the countryside turns vividly green, but pack accordingly.

Autumn (September–November)

Widely considered the best all-around season — clear skies, comfortable temperatures, and Bhutan’s major tsechu festivals almost all fall within this window.

“Come in spring for the flowers, come in autumn for everything else.”

Winter (December–February)

Cold, especially at altitude, but genuinely rewarding for clarity — this is when the Phobjikha Valley’s black-necked cranes arrive, and monastery courtyards sit in a stillness summer crowds rarely allow.

The Honest Answer

If you can only choose one, autumn balances weather, scenery, and cultural events better than any other season — but there’s a genuine case for all four, depending on what you’re actually looking for.
